Taylor Swift was released on October 24, 2006 through Big Machine Records. The album is mostly country and contains 15 track overall with deluxe tracks included. While the genre was country, the songs strayed from more "typical country" and instead focused on reflections of her relationships with others and the emotions she felt while growing up. The album debuted at number 19 on the Billboard 200 chart with first-week sales of 40,000 copies. The album ended up selling fairly consistently and sold over a million copies by Novermber 2007.

Singles

The first single of the album was "Tim McGraw" which was also the first song she every published. The song was written about about a guy Swift was dating who would be going to college soon and would likely break up. The song acts as a memorilization of the best times the couple had. The name Tim Mcgraw also comes into play as it is one of the things Swift says will remind her boyfriend of her. It was relased on June 19, 2006.

The second single of the album was "Teardrops on my Guitar." The song tells the story of an unrequited crush on one of Swift's classmates. The song reflects the sadness Swift feels while still trying to be friends with the classmate who talks constantly about his girlfriend. The song was made a single on Febuary 20, 2007.

The third single of the album was "Our Song." The song tells the story of Swift's relationship and the lack of a "song" the couple shares. Throughout the song, Swift says their "song" is more things in their daily lives such as a slamming screen door or the way he makes her laugh as opposed to just a normal song. It was made a single on September 10th, 2007.

the fourth single of the album was "Picture to Burn." The song is about an angst-fulled Swift reflecting on a previous relationship. Throughout the song, Swift distances herself from the relationship reducing it to nothing more than a 'picture to burn.' It was made a single on February 4th, 2008.

The fifth and final single of the album was "Should've Said No." The song tells discusses a previous lover of Swift's who ended up cheating on her. It reflects on the things he should've done rather than cheating on her, such as saying no to the advances. It was made a single on May 19th, 2008.
